Switch between data cubes

The data cube controls the available measures and the keys and dimensions that can be used to group and filter the data.

To change the data cube

In any mode:

  1. Click the By in the breadcrumb path (underlined). This will open the Group By area if the widget has a single Group By. Otherwise, click Edit Group By's.

  2. Select from the cube menu at the top of the Group By area.

  3. Click OK.

In explore mode:

  1. Click on the widget to select it.

  2. Click the Cube area of the toolkit.

  3. In the pop-up dialog, select the data cube and click OK.

Tips:

The dataset may include a data cube, such as budgets, that does not appear in the data cube drop-down menu because you can access all its data from another cube. In addition, the data cube menu only includes data cubes that meet the following criteria:

  • The data cube includes at least one key. Virtual keys composed of dimensions do not count.

  • The data cube has at least some data.

  • The data cube is transactional or non-transactional.

Your System Administrator can selectively disable the data cube menu.

When you change the data cube:

  • If the By dimension belongs to both the old and new data cubes, the data remains grouped by the same dimension. Otherwise, the By becomes the first dimension of the first key within the selected cube.

  • The measure columns may disappear if they are unavailable for the selected By.

  • The date range may change.

  • Filters may change based on what is available in the selected cube.
