General widget settings

General settings allow you to select options for a widget, such as its title.

In explore mode, click on at the bottom of the toolkit to access general settings. Some settings are only available in edit mode.

Setting

Explanation

Widget Style

Choose a style to apply the widget. Some styles are built into Salient Dashboards. Your organization can customize these styles and configure additional styles.

Title

Enter a title to show at the top of the widget.

Title CSS

Optionally, enter a CSS style definition to apply special formatting to the title. The properties should be separated by semicolons. For example:

position:absolute; top:-45px; margin:-5px

Window-Width

Enter the width of the widget in # of columns for a dynamic layout or pixels for a fixed layout.

Window-Height

Enter the height of the widget in # of rows for a dynamic layout or pixels for a fixed layout.

X and Y Position

You can change the widget's position by entering the X and Y coordinates of its upper-left corner. For a dynamic layout, enter rows or columns; for a fixed layout, use pixels.

Show Date Setup Icon in Viewer Mode

Check the box to show the date setup icon in view mode, so that users can change the date range of the widget. This option must be on for date settings to be linked to other widgets.

Show Filters Icon in Viewer

Check the box to include the filters icon in the widget toolbar in view mode, so that users can apply interactive filters to the widget (depending on the widget's By dimensions).  If this option is cleared, the users will not be able to filter the data using this method.

Disable Breadcrumb Path

Check the box to hide the breadcrumb path and, therefore, disable its By and filter menus. The breadcrumb path will be turned back on if the user switches to explore mode.

Disable Viewer Measure Changing

Check the box to turn off the measures  tool and, therefore, prevent users from selecting and adding measures in view mode.

Allow Viewer Chart/Grid Toggling

Check the box to allow users to toggle between graph and grid for the widget.

Use Workspace Filters

Check the box to filter the widget by the dashboard's workspace filters, including those with and without separate filter widgets as well as filters applied via a URL. This setting is on by default but can be cleared if you don't want workspace filters to affect a specific widget. Note that workspace filters based on collections cannot be turned off and are not affected by this setting. In addition, password collections are not affected by this setting.

Use Dashboard Date

Check the box to link the widget's date to other widgets in the dashboard. This also allows the widget to be affected by an end date selector or date button (if present).

Clear the box if you want the widget to have its own stand-alone date settings.

Use Equiv Selector

Check the box to enable the effect of an equivalent selector on the widget, or clear the box if you do not want an equivalent selector to affect the widget.

Include Nulls

(affects Scattergram and key list only)

Check the box to include members that do not have data for the selected date range and context.

Misinformation

Check this box to override measure visibility rules based on applied filters. Only advanced users who fully understand the dataset schema should utilize this option. Administrators may turn this option off entirely.

Enable Password Collections

This setting is only available if Salient Dashboards are set up to use benchmarking with password collections. Turn on this setting to apply password collection conditions (i.e., show or hide data for other members based on the By dimension) or leave this setting off to filter the data by the password collection in all cases.

Transparent

Check this box to make the widget background transparent.

Show Border

Check this box to show the widget's border in view mode, or clear the box to hide the border.

Lock Crossby

(Crosstab only)

Check this box to prevent users from changing the Cross By in view mode.

In graphs, this setting also affects the drill path:

  • If the Cross By is locked, drilling down will occur one dimension at a time. The Cross By will stay the same.

  • If the Cross By is unlocked, drilling down on a graph component narrows down two levels at once (1st By and Cross By) and the Cross By changes.

In grids, this setting does not affect the drill path; drilling occurs one dimension at a time and the Cross By remains unchanged.
